There is a sign out by the road, but the only structure that you can see from the road is a garden center.  A typical windowshopper might see no clear indication (besides the sign) of a gun store, and drive on past for years.  A slightly more persistent fellow might (having seen a gun store in the back room of an unfinished furniture store) walk into that garden center and look around to see if there is a gun section (there isn’t).  But he might not open his mouth to ask about the gun store, and thus would leave with his ignorance intact.  Don’t be that guy.

Just follow that red arrow in the picture above to the back of the parking lot and jink left…

It's back here!

It's back here!

…and THAT’S the entrance to Bethany Firearms.

It isn’t huge inside, but proprietor Chris Tasso manages to fill it with the things you expect to find at a gun store, and some that you don’t usually find, like hot dogs.  For handguns, there are new defensive & plinking pistols and revolvers to choose from by manufacturers like: SiG, Ruger, S&W, Taurus, Springfield, Walther, Beretta, and Kahr.  (Bethany Firearms deals primarily with new guns, and they price them to move).  Didn’t see any target handguns, but they had a 6″ S&W model 63 in .22LR:

They also stock sporting & defensive rifles and defensive shotguns; we didn’t see many sporting shotguns.  I saw two Springfield M1A’s, some Stag ARs, Marlin lever-guns, a few bolt-action hunting rifles, a Mini14 with really nice dark wood that had a lot of character, a Sig 556, a .22 AK-pattern plinker, and some surplus rifles:

If they don’t have it, they can order it.  If you look at the top of that lower picture, you will notice two suppressed bolt-action rifles and a suppressed .22 pistol.  Chris’ brother John handles all of the Class-3 stuff (primarily suppressors), by appointment.

And there is ammo too.  Most of the popular calibers, and usually multiple (target and defense) loads for each handgun chambering:

There are two double-sided racks with DeSantis, Galco and Don Hume holsters for the most popular handguns:

They have most of the usual accessories too; magazines, some sets of rings, a few scopes, flip-up scope caps, cleaning gear, targets (their small location is a limiting factor):

There is a relaxed atmosphere at Bethany Firearms; no gun-store attitude in evidence.

We have no hesitation about spending money there.

  1. Andy Malik says:

I bought my first gun from Chris in 1997. It was a S&W 629 “Trail Boss”. I’ve not purchased a single firearm since then that he didn’t have or order for me.

    I won’t go anywhere else.
