Politicians will be trying to ban hammers now:
“NEWINGTON — Mayhem erupted when a man ran through the Fox Run Mall Thursday, smashing display cases and glass storefronts with a hammer as he babbled incoherently, police and witnesses said.
Only one person was injured by falling glass, but witnesses described a chaotic scene in which some people feared a gunman was on the loose. Michael Williams, 34, of Dover, was arrested without incident inside the mall for felony criminal mischief.”
Can’t you just visualize some liberal politicians yammering on TV about the need to control those deadly hammers? I mean, you could kill somebody with one.
I am sure they will make a case for “reasonable” restrictions, like a waiting period to buy hammers, and making potential customers prove that they actually need a hammer. And anyone who disagrees with those restrictions will be tarred & feathered as being “pro-violence”.
And, did you notice the way the media dragged guns into the story, like they dragged Sarah Palin into the Gabby Giffords story? The jackass had a hammer…but “some people feared a gunman was on the loose“.
Hot news flash, Perry White: some people fear the mainstream media is dishonest and incompetent.
But there is plenty of incompetence to go around.
Did you hear about the latest shooting at Virginia Tech? The “authorities” have apparently made good on their “promise” to improve the response time to violence. Via Sean at All Nine Yards:
“14 Minutes to Respond – 22 Minutes to Issue an Alert“
I personally take no comfort in that response time. I mean, what if it wasn’t a campus shooting, but a maniac running wild at a shopping mall with a hammer? A lot of nails can be pounded in with 14 minutes to work with, even if they aren’t sticking up.
I’ll keep carrying a gun, thanks. Cowering in fear for 14 minutes isn’t something I am willing to endure, especially when the “authorities” are told by the courts that they have no legal obligation to protect any citizen.
And, with a hat tip to SayUncle, more Americans than ever are agreeing with me:
“Every state except Illinois now allows residents to carry concealed weapons, and a recent Gallup poll found that 47% of American households own a gun, up from 41% just a year ago.”
