I am flabbergasted.
First Britain bans guns, and sees their crime rate with guns rise 89% in the last decade.
That, in country that is known to be the most violent place in Europe, and more violent than the USA or South Africa too!
Now, to combat the violence, they want to ban kitchen knives.
Australia just banned the carrying of knives; this British proposal goes even farther and wants to ban them from the kitchen altogether, claiming that a bunch of chefs told them that big kitchen knives aren’t needed.
I wonder what will be next on their agenda. Hammers? Screwdrivers? Cricket bats? Rocks?
Like the old saying goes, if you build a better mousetrap, the world will find a way to kill people with it. And some bureaucratic eunuch will attempt to ban it.
From the indispensable Iowahawk, I learn that a Briton is 5 times more likely to die in one of their government-run hospitals than an American is to be killed by gunfire, and get a link to this article:
I wonder when my English debating partner will call for the elimination of his own deadly medical system.
From a link on Drudgereport.com:
Now it should surprise no one that the gun-toting yet anti-gun hypocrite senator from the bankrupt state of California is the first out of the gate with this nonsense. She will undoubtedly have support from fellow gun-toting anti-gunner upChuck Schumer.
By now, you must be aware of the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown CT. Details are still developing, but this is a horrible tragedy regardless of the specifics. (I will add a link when the facts are all known; for now, google it)
Disclaimer: I am close friends with the mother of one of the child victims, and with the child.
That said, obviously today was a long, difficult and painful day. Work was the last thing on my mind, as I heard my friend’s growing concern turn to fear and despair as the hours wore on and more details became known.
First it was an incident at a school. My friend learns this, and discovers it was the school her child was at, and heads to the school.
A while ago I wrote a post about Sig’s PDW conversion kit for pistols.
Well I came across this article at the Firearm Blog, about Israeli police units utilizing a very similar device (with the addition of a folding buttstock) with their pistols. The article quotes Israel Defense: “It will significantly improve security capabilities, with regards to range, speed, precision and quality of fire,” says Yotam Gal, of CAA Tactical. “These systems are already serving quite a few security bodies around the world, in countries such as Italy, France, in South America and more.”
So, someone is convinced that this conversion kits make a difference. Interesting. Having a buttstock probably makes it more effective than the NFA-compliant device that Sig is offering.
But far more interesting is this section of the Firearm Blog post:
